Mental Health

Mens mental health includes a broad range of conditions/symptoms including:

  • anxiety,
  • depression
  • suicidal thoughts
  • Anger Issues

Click here to find a full list of mental health conditions and what they mean.

In men a high proportion of these can be masked by increased alcohol consumption, anger or aggression and throwing yourself into your work. Men are less likely to seek help for mental health issues than women.

This is especially important to identify in men as the leading cause of death for young men under the age of 45 is suicide. Men are three times as likely to commit suicide than women and the mental health foundation Scotland found over a third (37%) of Scottish men experienced suicidal thoughts as a result of feeling stressed and 31% increased the amount of alcohol in order to cope.

If you experience any of these symptoms or even feel you are ‘not quite right’ it is a good idea to get in touch with your GP or contact / access the resources listed below.

Brothers in arms is a charity that focuses on destigmatising discussions around mental health in male spaces.
