Are useful injectable anti-inflammatory treatments to provide temporary and sometimes curative relief for people who suffer with certain inflammatory conditions.
1: Frozen shoulder
2: knee and base-of -thumb osteoarthritis
3: carpal tunnel syndrome
4: wrist tendonitis
5: trigger finger.

Benefits
Steroid injections contain depo-medrone (methyl-prednisolone) which is a potent corticosteroid that helps to dampen or reduce inflammation in the affected area.
In some cases like trigger finger or frozen shoulder it can cure or expedite the natural resolution of the problem. While in other cases, like knee arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome, it can reduce the symptoms of a flare up of the condition and provide temporary relief for week to several months at a time.

Is there anything I need to bring prior to my appointment?
· Please wear a top, vest or bottoms that is easy to remove and expose the affected joint about to be injected.
What should I expect after a steroid injection?
· Please rest the affected joint for at least 24-48hrs.
· Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for the first 2 weeks initially then to gradually increase mobilisation of the joint thereafter.
P If you are working with a physiotherapist, please let them know if you are getting a steroid injection. Often the proceedure will be recommended by physiotherapist to help complement rehabilitation
Are there any potential side–effects?
- · Some patients can experience mild worsening of pain within first 24 -48 hours after injection.
- · At the injection site, some experience local skin colour changes, injury to local nerves, tendon weakening or rupture, thinning of the bone, soft tissue loss (atrophy),
- · Infection of the joint is rare but increased swelling, pain of the injected joint together with flu like symptoms might suggest this. Please review back urgently if this is the case.
- · A slight rise in sugar levels if you known to be diabetic.
- changes to local skin pigmentation at the injection site
How long does the effect lasts for?
• The pain relief of depo-medrone (methylprednisolone) injection usually helps within 2-3 weeks but the effect can last for 2-6 months
