St Columba’s Hospice provides hospice and end-of-life care for people with incurable illnesses and their families. They offer a range of services including support over the telephone, support within the community and inpatient care. Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) provide care for children and their families. They provide a range of services at Rachel House, Robin House, at home and in hospital. Services at Robin and Rachel House include end of life care, short planned breaks and emergency care (often as a step down from hospital). They also provide counselling for children and families. The Marie Curie hospice covers the southside of Edinburgh and therefore is out of catchment for the practice. However, their outpatient services and website may still be useful for you.

Maggie’s Edinburgh is a charity offering help to people who have been diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones. Located behind ward 1 at the Western General Hospital, Maggie’s offer free one-to-one help and information, group activities or just a place to come for a cup of tea to meet people who understand what you’re going through. The Edinburgh Cancer Centre at The Western General Hospital provides outpatient chemo and radiotherapy, inpatient beds, a Teenage Cancer Trust Unit  and a Cancer Assessment Unit for emergencies. Their services are offered to people with curable and incurable cancers, and they work closely with palliative care teams. Your oncologist and specialist nursing team are the best sources of information on how to use these services.
