CTACs
What is a 'Community Treatment Centre'?
Community Treatment and Care Services (CTACS) provide additional local community services in support of what had been historically solely delivered by GP practices.
These may include wound care and dressings, suture removal, ear wax management, phlebotomy and other services too. It is hoped that through this initative, we will be able to better meet the growing demand and reduce waiting times for these type of appointments . To be clear though, Bangholm Medical Centre is still offering nursing and phlebotomy appointments.
To contact or self-refer for a treatment/service, please call the Edinburgh CTAC booking line on 0300 790 6296
Where is my Local CTAC?
Despite our local CTAC being at Leith Community Treatment Centre, patients are able to access treatment at any of the following sites across Edinburgh:
- Leith Community Treatment Centre
- Stockbridge Health Centre
- Pennywell All Care Centre
- Sighthill Health Centre
- South Queensferry Medical Practice
- Parkgrove Medical Practice
- Allermuir Health Centre
- Conan Doyle Medical Practice
- Mountcastle Health Centre
Why Have Things Changed?
Changes to the arrangements between GP Practices and the Scottish Government have meant that some services will be extended or transferred to the responsibilty of NHS Lothian's Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS staff rather than your practice.
What Does It Mean for Our Patients?
- Access services and treatments sooner.
- Receiving treatment at convenient locations close to their homes or workplaces.
- Receive care from expertly trained staff.
- Our GP's will be kept up to date on your management.
What Treatments are currently Available?
Ear Irrigation
Patients must instil oil ear drops for 10-14 days before any appointment, even if self-referring. These drops are available from any local pharmacy. Failure to use drops prior to irrigation will make the procedure ineffective as the wax will be too hard.
Suture / Staple Removal
If you have suffered an injury or had an operation which required sutures or staples, these can now be removed at your local CTAC.
Wound Care
If you require wound care or dressings, including leg ulcers or wounds after surgery or injury, you can self-refer to your local CTAC for treatment.
